Manolo VALIENTE

Don Quichotte (Don Quixote)

Tapestry woven by the Colombes workshop for ART (Atelier de Rénovation de la Tapisserie).
1950.

A multi-talented artist, a Spanish Republican who chose exile in France and who was the subject of an exhibition at the Museu memorial de l’exili at La Jonquera, Valiente designed this amusing cartoon of a very Spanish subject (no doubt influenced by nostalgia for his native land) for the ART workshop of Antoine Behna. This particular tapestry was exhibited as number 75 at the retrospective ART exhibition in 1950 (it still bears the numbered label).
