Winter sun
Tapestry from Aubusson woven by the Atelier Pinton.
No. 1/1.
Circa 1980.
Michel Degand, a protean artist (painter, sculptor, illustrator,…), over more than 50 years of creation, designed about a hundred tapestry Cartoons, drawing on constantly renewed inspiration—sometimes dreamlike or “cosmic” (in the spirit of Wogensky), sometimes “technological” (à la Millecamps)—often lyrical, with a marked interest in the material, and most of them were woven by Pinton in Felletin.
The sun is a leitmotif in the artist’s work; but in this fragmented composition, he uses—as Sautour-Gaillard would do in the 1990s—retapes (with a finer point), as if they were affixed within the motif: fragments of old tapestries, prompting unusual confrontations.
