Evelyne DUFAU

Jardins romantiques (Romantic gardens)

Tapestry woven by the Colombes workshop for ART (Atelier de Rénovation de la Tapisserie).

Circa 1945.

Little is known about the artist, but she created a number of cartoons, which would be woven posthumously by Antoine Behna’s ART workshop. Various cartoons and tapestries of differing size exist (cf the Millon-Robert sale catalogue 3.10.1990 n° 2 32-33) featuring this motif, which repeats, on a royal blue background, scenes showing gardens with architecural features, infinitely repeated, as for wallpaper.
